Pages bright and clean with just the odd spot and handling mark, heavier to the first and last few pages and the tissue guard for the frontispiece. Fading to the boards, as is common with this work. Illustrated by Henry Justice Ford, a noted English illustrator who is best known for his beautiful illustrations for Lang's works. He was a Scottish poet, novelist, and literary critic. Andrew Lang is best known for these collections of fairy tales, and was an avid collector of folk and fairy tales. The Pink Fairy Book contains forty one tales, all of which based on stories and folklore from Japan, Sicily and Scandinavia, the most notable of which being The Snow Queen. The frontispiece has retained its tissue guard. The title page vignette and one further vignette have been tastefully hand coloured. The contents page has had the contents marked off. There is toning to the page margins, particularly the top margin and a persistent small stain at the top page edge from circa p170 to 257. The back board is clean with some faint marking and fading close to the spine. It has been rebacked with the original spine relaid onto matching cloth, so the book is sound and tight. The binding has delicate gilt illustration to the front board which is bright. With numerous black and white illustrations by H J Ford.
